"Moon" Mullins and the Borrowed Time Race Team are down to earth. There is a famous line from the movie "On Any Sunday" in which the narrator states "There is no thrill equal to reaching up to pull a tear off at a hundred miles per hour", well there is! When you are low in the corner, weight shifted and knee dragging try reaching for a hand shift! Moon and many more like him do this week in and week out during the AHRMA racing season. Indians, and Harleys side by side shifting with the left and twisting the grip with the right. And all the while within inches of each other. It takes a very special man and race team to want to do this week in and week out. Moon and the Borrowed Time Race team are just the type. Moon originally toured with the Marshall Tucker Band and Toy Caldwell from the early 70's through the mid 80's. After making great friends like Charlie Daniels, Norton Buffalo and others Moon moved on to the trucking business and then into the bar business. But something was still missing so he decided to follow his passions, antique motorcycles, specifically Harley-Davidson antique motorcycles. Then he got involved with the Antique Motorcycle Club of America and bought a couple antique bikes to restore and resell. His personal passion soon grew into restoring bikes for other outside sources. After purchasing the machinery and inventory of a failed after-market shop his personal passion grew into repairing bikes and retail sales. Along the way Moon came upon a 1949 Harley-Davidson '45' WR class C factory racer. This was soon updated for use in AHRMA racing. Then before you knew it the Borrowed Time Race team was born. The team includes Michael "The tour director" Perry, Denise "Nesie" Mullins, A. "Moon" Mullins, Cary "C.C." Corbin, Steve "Toolpouch" Melton and Kelley Melton. Sponsors of the Borrowed Time Race team include Moonlite Cycles, David Wemett, and Wheels Through Time Museum.
So if you want a serious thrill get out to see the Borrowed Time Race team at an AHRMA event near you. And for an even bigger thrill, stop by Moonlite Cycles and have Moon and the gang put together a hand shifter for you to race!
