Zorkic Uses AccuFLEX Golf's ICON Shaft To Earn Buy.Com Tour Victory
In Only Its Second Week On Tour, AccuFLEX's ICON Captures SAS Carolina Classic Buy.Com Tour Title
Los Angeles, CA, May 20, 2002 -- AccuFLEX Golf, Inc. (www.accuflexgolf.com) announced today that Zoran Zorkic used the company's new ICON premium golf shaft to earn his first professional tour victory with a win at this weekend's Buy.Com SAS Carolina Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina. Tom Hunt, owner of the Buy.Com Golf Club Workshop, the Buy.Com's official tour van, began offering the ICON to Buy.Com tour professionals when the shafts arrived at his van two weeks ago. Zorkic was one of the first to try AccuFLEX's new shaft offering.
"Tom told me he had a shaft he thought I would like when I arrived to qualify for the Richmond Open two weeks ago," Zorkic began. "I immediately liked the look and feel of the shaft but the true test is does the shaft have a 'backbone'. The ICON truly does. Needless to say, I am really glad I made the switch. The two year exemption I earned this week is obviously a huge boost for my career and for my family. You can bet that I will be using the ICON in the weeks to come."
"The Buy.Com Tour is the most demanding and stressful Tour in golf," Hunt began. "As you can well imagine the pressure to succeed here is tremendous. Not only are these guys anxious to get onto the PGA Tour but there is tremendous pressure to attain and/or retain their Buy.Com Tour status. The reaction to the AccuFLEX ICON has been amazing. Within three days of its introduction at the Richmond (Virginia) event two weeks ago there were four ICONs in play. I imagine I will have a ton of player requests for the shafts after this week's victory."
AccuFLEX Golf offers two shafts in its ICON Series, the now tour-proven ICON and the more user friendly ICON V.2. AccuFLEX credits the tremendous interest in the ICON shaft line to the company's use of its revolutionary and proprietary A2 advanced graphite composite, which delivers the performance and feel that the Tour's best players are looking for.
"AccuFLEX Golf would like to congratulate Zoran Zorkic for his first, and our first, Buy.Com Tour victory," commented AccuFLEX Golf president Jody Baucom. "I had the pleasure to meet Zoran at the event last week and he is a great guy and a very deserving champion. We are excited but not surprised by our victory this weekend. When we developed the A2 material to make some of our ground-breaking Long Drive shafts over the past several months, we couldn't wait to incorporate the material into a Tour shaft. The accuracy,
performance and feel that can be created by using the A2 material is phenomenal. The Buy.Com players are quickly discovering this. We look forward to having PGA Tour players try our ICONs and I really think that the ICON V.2 shafts would benefit Senior PGA Tour players. I just hope we can make these shafts fast enough."
Product Specifications
The ICON is 46 inches in length, weighs 79 grams with a torque rating of 2.25 degrees and a high bend point. The ICON V.2 weighs 72 grams, has a mid-high bend point and a torque rating of 3.25 degrees.
Product Pricing
The suggested retail price of the ICON shaft is $298.00
The suggested retail price of the ICON V.2 is $149.00
