PARSIPPANY, NEW JERSEY - Coldwell Banker Commercial®, the largest franchisor of commercial real estate brokerage firms, has announced its support of the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Institute's Cultural Diversity Education Program. The Cultural Diversity Education Program is part of the CCIM Institute's new national scholarship initiative designed to bolster minority representation within the industry. The program's goal is to significantly increase the number of minority commercial real estate professionals who enroll in the Institute's renowned educational curriculum and eventually attain the prestigious CCIM designation.

Up to 50 tri-state area practitioners will be accepted to participate in the Introduction to Commercial Investment Real Estate (CI Intro) course, which will be held January 15-16 at the Coldwell Banker Commercial corporate offices, 1 Campus Drive, Parsippany, N.J. The CCIM Institute will award scholarships for the CI Intro course based on the following criteria:
- Must have minority status and be a permanent resident and/or U.S. citizen
- Must demonstrate a need and/or merit for the scholarship
- Cannot be or have been a member of the Institute or taken prior CCIM courses
- Must be active in real estate or related profession and must intend to become a CCIM designee

Individuals interested in the program can contact Kristin Harrelson, CCIM Institute director of special projects, for an application at (312) 321-4460, ext. 4474, or by e-mail at kharrelson@cciminstitute.com. Classes will be taught by Byron Smith, Sr., Esq., CCIM, CRB, president of Metropolitan Realty Group, Inc. in Chantilly, Va.

"The goal of the CCIM Institute' Cultural Diversity Education Program is to create a critical mass -- a nucleus -- of highly trained minority commercial real estate professionals throughout the country," said 2003 CCIM Institute President Barry Spizer, CCIM.

This event is part of the Coldwell Banker Commercial brand's ongoing partnership with the CCIM Institute, which developed as a result of a company-wide commitment to continuing education. More CCIM designations are held by Coldwell Banker Commercial associates than associates of any other company.

"Traditionally, minorities have been under-represented in the field of commercial real estate," said George Slusser, Coldwell Banker Commercial president. "We are excited about and committed to supporting the CCIM Institute?s minority-focused scholarship program as it aligns with our focus on this segment and will provide substantial career opportunities for minorities and women, while expanding the pool of top-notch, certified talent."

The CCIM Institute began reaching out to minority students in 1999 with the debut of the Cultural Diversity Scholarship Program. Administered through the CCIM Institute's Education Foundation, the program has annually given 20 $500 scholarships for the CI 101 Financial Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate course.

Upon successful completion of the CI Intro course, a select number of students will be invited to complete the remaining core courses in the CCIM Institute's educational curriculum, a key step toward obtaining the prestigious CCIM designation. Presentation of the remainder of the CCIM core courses will continue around the country during 2004. It is anticipated that those students who successfully complete the course requirements would be eligible to take the comprehensive examination for the CCIM designation in 2005.

About the CCIM Institute
